Good Morning/Afternoon/Whatever People,

I know it has been quite a while since my last installment, and I apologize for this. I hope everyone is great, and if you're not, well, there really isn't anything I can do about it anyway. So tough sh#%t.

I currently have about 3 weeks left in training (I swear in on Dec. 9th), and Jen and I then move to Nambuma, which is about an hour northwest of the capital city Lilongwe. We just finished our site visit today, and are extremely excited about the possibilities that our community holds.

As for me, I am getting extremely hairy, both in the face, and the length of my hair on my head. I would most likely be referred to as a dirty ass hippie back home. Along with this, I am happy to say that I am on a tri-weekly bathing schedule, and it is in the form of bucket baths. So awesome is the word of the day.

Not much else to report besides the fact that Malawi is home, and I'm happy as hell about it. I miss most of you, and look forward to seeing as many of you here as possible. Seriously. In about three weeks, I should have internet access about 1-3 times per month, so if you send it, I will respond . . . eventually.

Otherwise, take care, and remember that it is much warmer where I am than were you are. Although I do have a greater chance of contracting malaria. Hmm.

Peace

  1. Ludmonkey,

I'm glad you are finally able to share your experiences with us back here in Reedsburg. Some of us miss you too. Probably more so your wife, but you are missed. Well, at least that's what my wife said I should tell you!

We sent you a football and soccer ball from RAHS. The football was actually used by the state championship team. The locals there will no doubt be impressed by that fact!

Good luck with the bathing thing and try not to get malaria.

  2. Great to hear about africa through the eyes of Ludvigson. Tri-weekly showers? Come on now, you were on that bathing schedule long before you left for Malawi.
Sure miss you and Jen but especially your narration of life with that distinctive burgandy / ludmonkey tone.
Chicago is cold as always this time of year.
    Stay Classy Malawi
